The Rocky Mountains: The Rocky mass of Jebel Barkal rises from the plain about 1.5 miles from Karima. In ancient times it was a holy mountain the abode of God Amon. At the foot of the mountain are scattered the ruins of the temples dedicated at various periods to the worship of God. The remains of about a dozen buildings could now be seen trough little remains of their former splendour.
The Red Sea: The Surface of the Red Sea represent one eight of one percent of the world ocean, it is along narrow marine basin extending from Bab Al-Mandab North wards to the Southern tip of the Sinnai Penisula. The total lenght is about 1900 km of which about 650 km border on the Sudan. Because of the embayment and capes, however, the Sudanese coast line is more than 750 km long. The maximum of width of the Red Sea is 306 km off Port Sudan, the width is about 200 km.
A few kilometres to south of Musawwarat lies te town of Naga. Excavations at this large site were only recently started. however, the standing structures, practicularly on Kushite art architcture of a later period. The best preserved buildings are the lion and Amun temples built by king Natakamani and queen Amanitore around the beginniny of the Christian era. The relief representation of the king and queen on the pylon of the lion temple indicate that they were of equal status. One of the most remarkable examples of kushite architcture is the kiosk at naga, Greek and Roman elements.
